Post-Dated : August 18, 2012 Gavin and Colbie Concert
"The Group" Most easily stated, the collaboration of 3 husbands & 3 wives and Drew and I purchased tickets to go see Gavin DeGraw and Colbie Caillat!
We started the night going out to my absolute favorite Mexican in Las Vegas it has been for the last decade, if you're ever looking for good Mexican in Las Vegas, it's off of Charleston and Main street, vibe is amazing, servers are prompt, food is delicious, and the drinks are yummy and special! It was reasonable and ridiculously fun!
As we arrived with our friends Kristin and Michael, our other halves realized the same things we did about parking and parked at the Excalibur, ( god love them) and arrived shortly after the concert had begun. All of us thought Degraw would play first because most of the group felt Caillat was the bigger act, and that may just be because we're more familiar with her than we are with Degraw. I grew up a HUGE Gavin DeGraw fan, hello… One Tree Hill Lover?! Hah But, after listening to both acts, we can understand why he was on last.

Until now, I've never been to the Mandalay Beach club and
pool area of the Las Vegas casino. Though, I have enjoyed concerts at the
casino before. Last time, I was with my
best friend Dj’s family, His Step Mom, her best friend, and his Aunt.. we went
to go see Boyz II Men when I was about 17 years old and it was
amazing!!! But for this concert,
at Mandalay Bay, it was a beautiful scene, especially at night.
It was Drew’s first
big concert at an outdoor venue period, and our first concert together, let’s
note… Drew HATES beach sand, if I didn’t know before… I found out once we got
there… and the beach at Mandalay… literally looks like, a beach. Sand for at
least ½ a mile from the shore to the pool…
First, it was a Saturday night, the strip was already busy. But, what I
forgot about, that didn't help, was that Mandalay Bay was hosting another
concert that night. Another double
headline concert, that some would consider bigger that the combined duo of
Caillat and Degraw (not me, but a lot of younger people and Latin
Americans). Jennifer Lopez and Enrique
Inglesias were also performing at the world famous casino! So, there was no self-parking or valet at
Mandalay Bay, Luxor and even Excalibur! But, luckily, our final pit stop still
had plenty of room and we were able to park in the event lot nearest to Russell
Road ( Thanks for all of the concert secrets bestowed upon my youth years
Alicia and Brittnay Barnes).

I found Colbie was so cute as she explained the stories
behind her songs and when she shared personal things with the audience. She seemed so genuine and real on the
stage. Not fake like most of the big pop
artists we see and hear today. She sounded better live, than she did on any of
her songs on the radio or the singles I've downloaded on iTunes. She mentioned one song that she knew was
played at a lot of weddings, her single "I Do." As she started
playing the song, a couple who just got married that night, I'm assuming at the
Mandalay Bay Wedding Chapel, stood up to cheer and make it known that Caillat
had it right on the money. Our friend
Janeth cheered as she’d exclaimed the song she used during her recessional at
her wedding, as we recall! She ended her set with one of her original singles
that made her famous, "Bubbly." It was a great way for her to call it
a night.
Gavin’s soul filled performance rumbled through all of the
water, Drew truly got into it during the second half of the concert, knee deep In
the wave pool, laughing and dancing with his girlfriend in the water, mingling
with the other couples in the crowd and screaming at the top of his lungs to
his favorite Gavin songs. We had an absolutely divine time, and we thoroughly
enjoyed the entire show.
Obviously while checking youtube, We missed this performance because we left early, what a bummer! Colbie Caillat was amazing, as was Gavin!
PS. we got a chance to catch the amazing opening act as well, his name was Justin Young, and this kid is AMAZING... whoo, left me speechless. Check out a song he and Colbie did together, try not to fall in love with him!! (Remember you heard it here while the advice was still new!)
